  • F*** Yeah (Sorry Mike’s Mum!)

    Okay, so if you are reading this, you’ll know that I don’t really swear that often, but the title of this post will make sense to anyone at the Wakey!Wakey! show tonight.

    Wakey!Wakey came across to the UK for two shows, one in London on Tuesday, and one at the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham, which I took my brother to today (well I guess it’s yesterday now).

    The opening act was To Kill a King. I’d never heard of them before, but they were really, really good –  I will be looking for them on iTunes later on. Frank didn’t like them too much, but thankfully he loved Wakey!Wakey!

    The show was amazing – a great energy, and they played all my favourite songs. I love that Mike is such a great singer, but also puts so much emotion into each song – you can tell that he really means what he is singing. In between songs, he told a fair few stories, often getting a bit side-tracked, but always hilarious. In fact, towards the ends he told a story that made him laugh so much he couldn’t start singing again.

    After the show had finished, he came back on to play a couple of songs for an encore, but said he didn’t want to play too much because he wanted to come out and meet everyone. I thought that perhaps it would just be a few people and then he would have to leave, but he stuck around and signed autographs and took pictures with everyone that waited – he was there for over an hour.

    Me and Frank were quite near the end, but he was still really polite and lovely. I did turn into a starstruck rambling idiot when I met him though, but I got his autograph and a picture taken with him (as did Frank).

     

    After a 90 minute drive  home rocking out to Wakey!Wakey!, I think it’s time for bed now – especially for Frank who stupidly volunteered to work at 8.45 tomorrow morning…

  • Yes, I bought a Heat Magazine…

    I went to London on Wednesday for work. The place I was going was right next to St James’s Park (I didn’t realise how close this was to Buckingham Palace until I got there). I’ve not been to London many times, so when I got there I decided that after I had finished work, I would walk along and take some pics. Unfortunately when I got out it was raining and I hadn’t taken my umbrella, so it was a quick walk to Picadilly Circus to get out of the rain.

    I had a bit of fun getting home – there was a fire south of Doncaster so all the East Coast trains were cancelled. Just as I was about to walk from Kings Cross to St Pancras to get the train to Sheffield instead, a train to Skipton (via Leeds) popped up on the board, so I went for that one. I’m not sure if many people noticed that it was going though Leeds because the train was deserted! It was a very slow journey because of congestion on the line, so I had time to watch Black Swan, and then a lot of How I Met Your Mother DVD extras. These two DVDs had an iPad/iPhone/other media device version, which meant that I didn’t have to take my laptop with me! I hope more DVDs start doing this…

  • Bible in 6 months?

    I sometimes have problems picking up the bible and reading it. Sometimes, I can open it and find exactly what I needed, and other times, I seem to lack the motivation. I’ve recently been reading a 100 day reading plan, which takes you briefly through the bible in (you guessed it) – 100 days.

    Although I am really enjoying reading this and the notes that come with each day’s reading, I am not really reading anything that I have not read before. There are still some parts of the bible that I have not read, and some that I am not too familiar with, so my goal for the next 6 months  is to read through the entire bible.

    Rather than reading front to back, which can be demotivating when you know exactly how many pages you have left to go, I have chosen a reading plan on YouVersion which takes you through the entire bible, mixing in old and new testament. I read the descriptions of a lot of the ‘Whole Bible’ reading plans, and the one that caught my interest was OwnIt365. As you may guess, this aims to go through the bible in 1 year, but I have decided that I would like to read more each day, so I am aiming to read it in 6 months.

    The good thing about YouVersion is I can read the days readings in my bible, online, or on my iPhone or iPad with the free apps that they have. You can also listen to the audio version on any device if you want. If you miss a day out, there is a ‘catch up’ button which allows you to move back to the last day that you read (could come in quite handy).

    Here we go…

  • Just what I needed…

    There have been a couple of times in the last week or so when I have heard/read something that was exactly what I needed.

    I have a couple of Bible reading plans, one is a 100 day reading plan in an old book I bought from Wesley Owen, and the other is Project 3:45 on YouVersion (great website btw – check it out). Last week, this came up on my reading plan and I thought it was perfect.

    1 Peter 5:6-9
    Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
    Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

    On my way home from work tonight, I was listening to Brad Paisley’s new album, and the song ‘One of those lives’ came on. The words are very thought provoking, and really put me back into perspective again.

  • That’s gonna leave a mark…

    My favourite baseball player Gordon Beckham got hit in the face last night by a relay throw in the game against the Blue Jays.

    It looked really painful – the last I heard, his eye was working but he was going to hospital to check for fractures. Let’s hope he’s okay and he’ll be able to get back soon!
