Steroids

I read a post on Tumblr this weekend which said that any baseball player that had admitted to taking steroids in the past should have any records removed from them, and shouldn’t be considered for admission into the baseball Hall of Fame. Now I don’t claim to know much about baseball, having only started following a team in 2004, and only watching it properly in 2008, but I don’t really think that is fair.

If a player took steroids before it was banned, then there shouldn’t be a problem with that. You can’t punish someone for doing something that was legal at the time. Yes, they may have known that they had an unfair advantage, but they were allowed to do it at the time.

I do agree that if someone has taken steroids since they were banned, they should have any records earned during that period taken away from them. It’s not fair that they can knowingly cheat the system so that they can win games, and earn their own personal records. They knew that it was wrong, so they should be penalized for it.

I know there are going to be discussions about this for a long time, but it would be a shame to punish some of the baseball greats for things they have done in the past.
